Making room for a heat pump and a future garden path in Whittier Heights
A heating replacement can affect plans that have nothing to do with a thermostat. At this Whittier Heights home, the homeowner was also thinking about a garden path and a small patio. They wanted to know where the heat-pump equipment would go before moving ahead with those outdoor changes.
Planning the space together
During the visit, we discussed the outdoor location alongside the existing furnace and the work needed for the new system. The homeowner explained the planned path and patio, giving the equipment-placement discussion a useful reference point.
Making that decision early helps the heating project fit into the larger plans for a home. In this case, it meant thinking about the outdoor unit and its connections while the garden layout was still being considered, rather than treating the two decisions separately.
The indoor and outdoor installation
The completed project paired a Mitsubishi SUZ-AK30NLHZ outdoor heat pump with an SVZ-AP30NL air handler and an MHK2 controller. The scope included removal of the existing furnace, a dedicated electrical circuit with GFCI protection, fittings and an additional duct run with a grille.
The photographs show the new air handler connected to the existing duct system and the outdoor unit beside the house. They also show the line routing and the physical space occupied by the equipment.
Looking beyond the equipment footprint
For this homeowner, choosing the outdoor location was part of planning how to use the yard. If a future path, patio or planting area matters to your project, bring it into the first walkthrough. It can shape the conversation before an equipment location is settled.
