Adding cooling while replacing a furnace in Seward Park
For this Seward Park homeowner, replacing the furnace was also a chance to add cooling. During the visit, they explained that they were leaning toward a heat pump and wanted an all-electric system. The next question was how that equipment would fit into the space already available.
Starting with the homeowner’s goal
We looked at the existing furnace and electrical panel, then worked through the indoor equipment area. Space was tight enough that height and the duct connections needed particular attention.
The advisor explained that the air handler would have different dimensions from the furnace. Checking the available height, the return connection and the transition to the existing ducts helped make the change easier to picture. Those measurements connected the homeowner’s interest in cooling with the work needed inside the house.
The completed installation
The project installed a Mitsubishi SUZ-AK36NLHZ outdoor heat pump, an SVZ-AP36NL air handler and an MHK2 controller. The scope included removal of the existing furnace, a dedicated electrical circuit with GFCI protection, panel-space work and fittings.
The installation photographs show the new air handler in the indoor equipment area and the heat pump on a pad beside the home. The new indoor and outdoor components connect the ducted system to the selected all-electric equipment.
Considering a similar change
The homeowner’s reason for looking beyond another furnace was straightforward: they wanted cooling as part of the next system. If you are considering the same change, the first visit can connect that goal with the space, ducts and electrical setup your home already has.
