Planning a heat pump around the garden in Sammamish

Where should a heat pump go when the garden matters just as much as the equipment?

For this homeowner, replacing the heating system also meant protecting a part of the home they wanted to keep enjoying. Walking the outdoor options together brought the garden into the plan, alongside the rooms that took longer to warm.

Making room for the garden

At this Sammamish home, outdoor placement became an important part of the planning visit. The homeowner and our advisor walked both sides of the house, comparing locations and discussing equipment clearances while looking for a way to preserve the preferred garden area.

Inside, we started with the furnace and electrical panel. A floor plan provided a starting point, followed by measurements with a laser tape measure. We measured windows and the height of a vaulted ceiling to account for the home’s layout in the heating and cooling calculations.

The homeowner also explained that the back of the house took longer to warm up. That led to a discussion about ductwork, distance from the furnace and circulating air.

In the crawl space, the homeowner pointed out a sagging duct. We photographed it during planning, and duct repair became part of the final installation scope, along with thermostat relocation.

The installation

The October installation replaced the gas furnace with a Midea air handler and added an outdoor heat pump with an EVOX G3 Wi-Fi thermostat. Electrical work included a dedicated circuit and an extended wiring run.

Afterward, the homeowner sent positive feedback about the installation team’s professionalism. The photos show the finished equipment, while the planning story explains the smaller decisions behind it, including the garden, the duct repair and the thermostat location.
