Caring for both heat sources at a Mount Baker home

A home with a furnace and heat pump has more than one way to provide heat, and both deserve attention. At this Mount Baker home, Evergreen worked through the furnace, outdoor heat pump and their drainage components during a maintenance appointment. The goal was to care for the whole heating setup rather than stop after one piece of equipment started.

Cleaning and checking the furnace

The technician checked inducer and blower motor amperage, with readings within specifications. The inducer capacitor was also in range. Burners and the flame sensor were cleaned, while the hot-surface igniter was inspected and its resistance measured.

Gas pressure was adjusted using temperature rise and the gas valve maximum outlet pressure as reference points. Electrical connections were checked, and the indoor coil was found in good condition. These operating checks accompanied the cleaning work, giving a fuller picture of the furnace during the appointment.

Following the water path, too

Both the furnace drain and indoor-coil drain were treated, sanitized and checked. The condensate pump was functional and correctly safety wired. Outside, the heat-pump coil was sanitized and the electrical and refrigerant components inspected.

For the household, keeping up with two heat sources also means keeping up with less visible details such as drains and the condensate pump. Annual maintenance and regular filter changes were recommended as continuing care for the existing system.
