A furnace replacement becomes a hybrid system in Kent

A problem with an existing furnace can lead to a larger decision: repair the equipment or consider a replacement?

The homeowner was weighing an immediate repair against a larger investment in new equipment. Understanding the diagnosis, the replacement scope and what support would look like afterward gave them concrete things to compare before committing to that expense.

Working through the options

At this Kent home, the homeowner had already been gathering information and comparing options. During our visit, we discussed the reported control-board and blower concerns, including the uncertainty around the diagnosis and the option of getting another diagnostic opinion.

The homeowner also wanted to understand what ownership would look like after installation. We talked through parts coverage, labor coverage, maintenance and the planned follow-up process.

The selected project paired a Mitsubishi outdoor heat pump with a new Trane two-stage gas furnace and an intelli-HEAT coil. An MHK2 wireless controller completed the hybrid system.

Inside, the equipment had to share a narrow garage area with the existing water heater. The replacement furnace and coil fit in that same space, with connections arranged around the surrounding equipment.

The installation

The installation also included new furnace venting, electrical protection and surge protection. Outside, the Mitsubishi heat pump sits on a pad beside the house.

This project brought heating and cooling equipment together while working within an existing mechanical space. The supporting electrical, venting and connection work was part of the plan from the beginning.
