Tracking down a whistling return in High Point
The heating system at this High Point home was working, but the homeowner had a more specific concern: noise at the return grilles. During a routine checkup of the ducted mini-split system, our technician investigated the whistling as well as the equipment itself.
Following the sound to the return grille
The technician found the system working well during the maintenance inspection. The electrical and refrigerant-system checks did not identify a failure requiring repair. The return noise led to a different recommendation.
The technician identified the existing return grilles as unsuitable for the higher-velocity airflow and recommended replacement grilles intended for that application. The proposed work addressed the grille selection, while the maintenance findings described the heating equipment as operating well at the visit.
A recommendation to consider
Replacement return grilles were recommended for follow-up. They were not documented as installed during this checkup, so the noise issue remained a proposed improvement. Surge protection was also recommended separately for the system.
Heat that works and a home that sounds comfortable are related concerns, but they can call for different work. Investigating the whistle gave the homeowner a specific option to consider instead of leaving an everyday annoyance unexplained. The proposed grille change remained a choice for a later visit.
