Getting a Gatewood furnace to answer the thermostat
The thermostat said it was calling for heat, but the furnace would not engage. That was the problem at this Gatewood home. The homeowner needed the equipment to respond when heat was requested, and our technician had to follow the startup sequence to find what was preventing it.
Checking ignition and flame safety
Testing found a failed flame-ignition system and buildup on the flame-safety components. Our technician discussed those findings with the homeowner and the options for addressing them. We then replaced the ignition and flame-safety components identified during the diagnosis.
After that work, another run test showed that the furnace was not receiving fuel. This was an important second finding: replacement ignition components could not light the furnace without a gas supply. The technician continued the investigation rather than treating the parts replacement as the end of the repair.
Following the fuel supply and testing again
At the gas main, we found that the earthquake safety valve was engaged. Our technician reset the valve to restore fuel to the furnace, then repeated the run test. This time the equipment started and lit, and it was functional at the end of the visit.
For the homeowner, the repair brought together both sides of the problem: the components that start and prove the flame, and the supply needed for ignition. Continued maintenance was recommended. The service photo shows the furnace involved in the call, where following the full sequence led from an unanswered heat request to a working system during the final test.
