Daikin Investing Heavily in US Manufacturing
Daikin, a Japanese company, is the largest manufacturer of heating and air conditioning equipment in the world. After years of dominating the markets in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, Daikin purchased Goodman in 2012 for 3.7 billion. This was a strategic move to enter the North American market place while partnering with an established US brand, and it seems to be working. Here in the Pacific Northwest, the Daikin name is becoming synonymous with the highest quality ductless heat pumps, which provide both heating and cooling for homes, and are extremely energy efficient.
At a time when many US companies are moving manufacturing offshore, Daikin is jumping into the US with both feet. Earlier this year, Daikin broke ground on a new $417 million facility in Texas. The plant stands to be one of the 10 largest contiguous buildings in the U.S. It's roof will cover the equivalent of over 60 football fields. The plant is set to employ over 4,000 U.S. workers.
"This plant is going to be Daikin's best plant in the global marketplace. We will use the most advanced technologies and achieve the highest productivity and efficiency," said Takeshi Ebisu, the CEO of Goodman. "In the end, we will look to demonstrate the highest quality in our group of companies."
The plant is due to be completed sometime in 2016, and will be responsible for designing and manufacturing heating and air conditioning products for both the Daikin and Goodman brands for the North American market. For more information, see these articles:
