Costly Gov't Regulations Coming May 1, 2013: Should You Replace Your Furnace Now?

July 25, 2012
On May 1st, 2013, all newly installed gas furnaces must be 90% efficient or above in all Northern states, including Washington State.  This new requirement has wide-reaching implications for existing homes in Washington, especially homes that currently have non-condensing 80% gas furnaces installed.

All 90%+ furnaces are condensing furnaces.  These furnaces have different exhaust venting requirements than non-condensing furnaces, as well as the need to dispose of the condensate.  Because of this, replacing an 80% furnace with a 90%+ furnace can be costly.  It may make sense to replace your furnace now while you have more equipment and cost choices available to you.  For more information, read this article by ACCA:
